HEROKA: Almost Superstar

Brought up in the midst of Bangladeshis, Heroka was influenced by Himesh Reshammiya and Anu Malik’s noise- I mean voice. Heroka’s interest in music was also partially boosted due to the fact that he frequently goes to jail and did not have anything to do other than sing Bollywood songs along with the inmates.

Like many people, he misunderstood between talent and hobby, profession and self amusement. Abdul is to be blamed because he listens to Heroka when he sings and praises him beyond truth that Heroka had to sign up for Nagaland Bollywood Voice Season 1. Soon, he made it to semi finals. Not because he had a good voice- No! But because there were only 6 participants and the organisers had to take them all.

It was during the winter, so it was not hard for him to sell voting cards. If you’ve read the previous episode, you’ll remember that Heroka lived in miya infested area. During winter, festive season, miyas required heavy security and protection because that is when they are mostly beaten up by locals. They chose Heroka’s rare tight slap over other locals frequent beating. Thus, with such diplomacy, Heroka sold voting cards with assurance of security and emergency help.

Heroka’s voting card became mode of currency at one point and the shopkeepers started giving voting cards on the pretext of “no Rs. 5 for change”. He also had to meet government officers and contractors around his colony- who has never heard him singing in life- to request them to buy his voting cards in bulk for Nagaland Bollywood Voice Season 1.
He won the contest without having two most important features to win- good voice and pleasing personality. One can imagine him singing like Himesh with a face only his mother could love. He was presented a “Melon Smartphone”, a certificate and assurance of Rs. 50,000- which he never got in the later days. That whole week, he woke up very early to check his name being felicitated in local newspapers. Some felicitated him because they wanted their names and designation to appear in the newspaper, some felicitated him because they were kind and they wanted to show they were kind and some, out of Heroka’s pressure.
After winning the contest, Heroka was invited by Assam Rifles to sing in the farewell of outgoing Platoon Commander and one during the pre Christmas celebration of Central Jail Dimapur for inmates. Since then he’s been humming like a Mosque.
